Should Walt Minnick Be Voted Out?

    I have a conundrum,

As a Conservative, I look for fiscal and social conservatism in a candidate. Though I cannot vouch for his social conservatism, as a deficit hawk, Walt Minnick seems to be rock solid. He voted against stimulus, health care, cap & trade, just to name a few. He was also the only Democrat to be endorsed by the Tea Party Express. So, here I stand, mulling over my vote for this election cycle, and I have a very difficult decision to make.

It is crucial for conservatives to take congress this election cycle. We need to get Nancy Pelosi out of the Speaker's chair. So, do I vote against my current representative, who has thus far stood up for my conservative values, just because he has a D after his name?

I don't see any other alternative, unless maybe if Walt would switch parties.  Idaho needs to make sure we have 2 votes to unseat Polosi and more importantly take back the committee leadership spots

I think we absolutely have to vote out Minnick because his first vote in Congress was for Pelosi as speaker. Minnick only voted against health care, stimulus, and cap & trade because Pelosi didn't need his vote for those bills to pass...she won without him and let him vote no to give him a better chance to keep his seat and make Idahoans think he's somewhat conservative. When it came to key issues, like bringing back the estate tax, aka the death tax, Minnick voted yes and it passed...by one vote. He's a typical tax and spend Democrat.

    Janet:

I appreciate your cogent response. Your points are well taken; you have definitely given me a little more perspective and clarity on the issue. I guess in the end I want a representative who votes for the issues, not as an anomoly in his chosen political party, but because his/her party principles stand for those things. If Walt was a real conservative, I doubt he could stomach his party and the radical takeover that has happened. I agree that the most likely reason he votes as he does is because his Speaker doesn't need his vote and wants to keep a Dem in a conservative state as a "sleeper"only to be taken out at critical times.

I will not vote for anyone, no matter how much of a 'fiscal hawk' they might be, if they are pro-choice.

I agree, but I wasn't sure how he stood on social issues.
