Every governmental operation should be open to public scrutiny.  Transparency is essential to allow the public the opportunity to see how and where THEIR MONEY is being spent.  In the case of School Districts, this information is just one of the ways the patrons can see what their elected School Boards are doing, and can provide them with the tools they need to ask questions or suggest ways to stretch the limited funds available.  This is a good bill that deserves passage.

Kent,  you are indeed correct that ALL governmental agencies need to have this type of transparency.  This is a good start to ensuring that our tax dollars are being used wisely!

Why are public school districts with less than 300 students exempt from this bill?

ZBrooks - that is a great question.  From my recollection, the idea was that for districts - not schools, but the entire district with under 300 students it may be technology issue.  the idea moving forward is to definetly have all districts on the system and to have the information in a searchable database in the upcoming 2012 fiscal year.
